  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I worked alongside experienced Software Engineers, getting practical training and gradually gaining the skills needed for the job. I used my personal learning with my hands on experience to become skilled at building software. I attended es all meetings with my team, asked lots of questions and express my opinions.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learn lots from shadowing, and also contribute within my capacity. There are lots of resources for personal development. I have also learnt on how to work effectively in an Agile environment and best practices of being a developer.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed been able to apply logical and rational thinking to problems solving which can be applicable to everyday life. The aspect of problem solving is what motivated me more to become a better programmer. It’s tough but am motivated

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I am developing in the aspect of organising. My proficiency in coding language, project management and programming in general has developed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The amount of support available is enormous. Since the start of the program I have enjoyed support from team members and members of the Barclays team. I also have an Apprentices Buddy who has been very supportive. I enjoyed working with my team and going to work everyday.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received continuous support from my training provider.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am still in process on getting my qualifications, the training provided do prepare to understand the complexity of working in an agile environment and understand what’s it takes to be a good developer with foundation training of JavaScript.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a lots of activities within the organisation for networking. I love giving back, there so many to do this within the community. You can also get involved in different active groups in the organisation to make impact.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The culture within Barclays is huge. I love the mindset and how this is delivered across the whole organisation. Team members respect each other and the working environment is very conducive. I enjoyed being part of an organisation which contribute positively to individuals, communities and world.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • You need the right mindset, this will help your transition within the organisation. Be positive and build a solid relationship with your team. You should always think from the stakeholders perspective, this will help you to understand how your role fit and what contribution is required from you.
