I am currently in my first year which is in a sheltered college environment. In the hanger I have developed my hand skills when completing practical tasks, as well as team working skills when working with others. This has included jacking the aircraft and completing an insert repair.
I have learnt lots of new basic hand skills when working in the hanger. These have included learning how to correctly use a file, pneumatic air drill, riveting gun, and pillar drill.
I really enjoy my programme. I enjoy having access to a great hangar environment, and having the flexibility to go in there for practical demonstrations any time I'm confused in the classroom.
My programme is well organised. We follow a structured timetable, but still have the flexibility to spend more or less time on a task/module if needed.
I receive a good amount of support from my employer. Access to support has always been made clear and available from the start, and I know where to go if I do need support.
I receive lots of support from my training provider. I have excellent tutors that deliver the content well, and am provided with great aids such as books and tablets to help me with the modules.
The qualifications I will gain will greatly help me in my role when I go in too the working environment. They provide me with the necessary basic understanding I will need.
We have already been provided with multiple opportunities for social networking, as well as being able to volunteer at STEM events.
Yes
It is a very supportive company, with a great working atmosphere.
Put a lot of effort into the application process - it is a very competitive apprenticeship. But also enjoy it and show your personality.
