  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am in charge of ensuring the children are cared for. This entails personal care, activity planning, risk assessing, communicating with colleagues and parents both verbally and written. I administer medication, complete necessary paperwork, carry out observations and interact with the children. I am responsible for 11 key children currently - 2 with suspected SEND needs and one of whom attends a secondary setting so I am also responsible for communicating with that nursery to ensure the child develops to their full potential.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt SO much. I was brand new to childcare before starting here and I had absolutely no clue about anything. Everyone has been so kind and all of my questions have been met with detailed answers. I learn something new every day and my colleagues are always happy for me to shadow them or to ask questions. The only thing that lets it down is having to write learning journals. I find them tedious, stressful and wholly unnecessary.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find it difficult because its hard to juggle working full time alongside training and writing up my coursework. However I do really enjoy it and I enjoy the freedom that comes with an online course. I can take my time and really let the information sink in. I can take things at my own pace meaning I can hand work in earlier or later than expected as long as I communicate my reasoning behind those actions.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Since changing from FW Soloutions to Realise I haven't personally seen much difference. I can't stand one file and found it very difficult to use and to upload things onto. My Tutor has been absolutely fantastic this whole time and she will always adapt things to support my needs.
