  • Maintain and develop all facets of the library Develop in staff and students the skills and attitudes to allow best use of the library Processing books for the LRC and departments Cataloguing books and e-books for the LRC and departments Cataloguing set texts for English Department and issuing Cataloguing set texts for Maths Department and issuing Cataloguing set texts for Business Department and issuing Issuing and returning books from students and staff Issuing and returning books on behalf of several Departments Helping students and staff with enquiries Registering for Book Buzz free resources for the LRC Introducing Book Buzz to students and collating orders Updating Oliver on a regular basis with new students, staff and leavers Administering Reward Shop – order and replenish stock Issuing rewards to students/ ordering Amazon Vouchers and lunch vouchers Have oversight of the ICT facilities within the library and liaise with the ICT support team as necessary Booking students on computers Booking computers/reading/research lessons for staff Lunchtime duty everyday Putting books back on shelves Mending stock as required Weeding of stock – physically and on Oliver Photocopying for students Prepare and send overdue letters Collating statistics for Top 100 Popular Books Making Posters/Creating displays Delivering Year 7 Library Inductions Take responsibility for the allocated library budget and select new resources to be ordered – to include books, eBooks and stationery Maintain a stimulating and appealing environment in the library Work with the Director of English to produce the library improvement plan and carry out the subsequent monitoring of progress Ensure the library is available to users at designated times outside of the school day (Mon/Thurs 3.30 – 5.00) Give students access to current careers information stored in the library and to maintain these resources Recruit, train and supervise student library monitors (Y7-11) and sixth form assistants Organise and run the Scholastic Book Fair to raise funds for the library Ordering World Book Day Resources Organise and co-ordinate Author visits Organise and co-ordinate fundraising activities (planning to sell weeded stock within LRC) Complete literacy postcards and update spreadsheet Clean shelves and books LRC Non Fiction - weed old stock and try to find funding for new stock, then re-organise Non Fiction Resource Boxes - Development of these further into subject areas that do not use this service. Use all methods possible to publicise the LRC. Event reports into Form Programme, local newspaper, website, front page of Oliver and Staff Bulletin. Follow whole school strategies to support literacy Archive Information from local newspapers, put in allocated folders Staff Bulletin – collate items, prepare and forward to SLO for checking TBS Data/ Monitor TBS usage TBS Parish Council Letters – requests for funding TBS Parish Council Letters – thank you for donation Prepare funding applications to other organisations Record Parish Council cheques and pass to Finance Check invoices from TBS service providers and pass to Finance Provide data for TBS tenders *LRC Duties – Average 24.75 hours *Central Admin duties – whatever is required – Average 17.25 hours Careers Action Plans – format, intouch and link to SIMS Collate Training certificates

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through completing my apprenticeship, I has expanded my skills and knowledge in operating and running a library, giving me more confidence to develop and improve the library services.

  • I enjoyed all aspects of the programme, especially completing the project.

  • I feel the training provider was not organised, consequently I sometimes felt a bit lost.

  • I received a lot of support from my employer, in terms of time and encouragement.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider seemed to have a problem retaining tutors. Two of my tutors left during the term of my apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't think the training provider helped a great deal. My first tutor was inconsistent and not very helpful and my second tutor, although better also left before my end point assessment. There was really only one person at my training provider who honestly helped me.

  • The department I work in organises social activities occasionally.

  • Yes

  • The school is excellent and I've been here just over 17 years, so they must be doing something right.

  • Be prepared to work hard and be positive in your approach.
