As an engineering apprentice, my role is to learn and gain practical experience in the field of engineering. On a day-to-day basis, this involves working under the guidance of experienced engineers and participating in various engineering tasks and projects. Some of the common activities I may be involved in include: Learning Shadowing Assisting
I have learnt Problem-solving: Engineers encounter challenges regularly, so as an apprentice, I will have the opportunity to participate in problem-solving exercises. This may involve brainstorming ideas, conducting experiments, or using software tools to analyse and solve engineering problems. The other technicians have been a great help in helping me learn new skills
I find satisfaction in working with my current team as they foster a friendly and supportive community. The work itself is manageable, but the combination of university assignments and the pressure can be demanding. It is worth noting that there are individuals in full-time university who face challenges even with a similar module workload, without the additional commitment of working for over 30 hours per week.
The program follows a well-defined structure where individuals are primarily responsible for managing their own time and completing tasks within a reasonable timeframe. At work, there are regular reviews and gateways that require task completion. However, in the university setting, the workload is managed individually without the same level of external oversight.
I am fortunate to receive extensive support from my employer, ranging from general inquiries to the provision of a mentor who guides me in my professional development. Additionally, I can rely on my colleagues for assistance with technical questions in my daily work. Similarly, the senior students at the university are always willing to lend a helping hand and provide support with my academic assignments.
I believe that my training provider has been very helpful. During lectures, they frequently offer their assistance and inquire whether anyone is experiencing difficulty with a particular task. I have frequently reached out to them via message and received a clear and thorough clarification in response. I am very thankful for the help that I have received.
In my opinion, my qualification lays a foundation of fundamental knowledge that may be necessary to perform my job duties. Although I encountered some information that appeared inconsequential at the time, I have since realized that it has proved useful in unexpected ways. I also believe that my qualification has helped to broaden my knowledge
There is a plethora of additional activities that numerous individuals tend to participate in. Examples include sports teams, running clubs, and mental health seminars which are sent via email to nearly all staff members. Furthermore, the second-year apprentices usually plan an early careers Christmas party that involves everyone so it is a great time to socialise.

In my personal opinion, Hansons is a commendable company to work for. Every organization has its drawbacks, and Hansons is not exempt from this. Nonetheless, I would endorse them to a friend due to the engaging nature of the work, satisfactory compensation, and the positive yet diligent work environment all whilst maintaining a great environment.
Fortunately, my father had previously applied to Hansons 3 years before me and offered me some valuable insights. In my opinion, I would suggest not feeling overwhelmed during the assessment days because Hansons doesn't necessitate a perfect candidate. Rather, they are seeking someone with innovative concepts who is enthusiastic about engineering and eager to progress in technical, professional, and personal aspects.
