  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Designing, analysing, developing, testing, manufacturing, and maintaining mechanically based systems and products is my responsibility. Working closely with design engineers, my daily tasks entail analysing and designing parts, assemblies, and systems to ensure that they adhere to functional, cost, and safety requirements. I utilise computer-aided design (CAD) software to make models and diagrams, evaluate and enhance a design's performance, continue to develop products to keep up with the industry's cutting-edge technology, and make sure that my products adhere to the necessary requirements.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, my role in mechanical engineering has allowed me to develop my existing skills, as well as learn new skills. I'm able to apply mathematical, analytical and creative problem solving skills to design and develop mechanical solutions. I've also developed my communication skills, as I often liaise with clients and colleagues. Furthermore, I've learnt a lot of CAD software, and digital manufacturing processes. I'm also learning how to do failure analysis and develop prototypes. In addition, I've been able to stay up to date with the latest advances in mechanical engineering through reading journals, attending conferences, and attending lectures.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme is quite enjoyable to me. I've learned a tonne, and I'm always picking up new knowledge. Working with knowledgeable coworkers has also been a privilege because I can learn from their vast expertise. I also enjoy using math and analytical thinking to find solutions to complex issues in order to build, create, and maintain mechanical systems. I have a fantastic sense of job satisfaction because of this.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My course is really nicely organised. Every month, I'm given a list of assignments to perform and given instructions. I can easily keep track of my progress and make sure I'm reaching deadlines thanks to this. I also have several projects going at once, which helps me become more familiar with the various facets of the industry. I'm generally pleased with how my programme is set up and structured.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive. I'm given regular training and mentoring to ensure that I'm up to date with the latest advances in mechanical engineering. Additionally, I'm encouraged to attend lectures and conferences which are relevant to my program. The staff and colleagues are also very friendly and always willing to help out if I have any questions or queries. As a result, I feel well supported in my role.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I receive from my training provider is outstanding. Whenever I have any questions or queries, they are more than willing to help. They provide a lot of guidance and advice, and keep me up to date with the latest qualifications and requirements for my profession. Furthermore, they are constantly introducing new ways for me to develop my knowledge and skills, and are always providing me with new and valuable resources. I can't thank them enough for all of their help and support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that having the right credentials will help me perform better in my job as a mechanical engineer. First off, it shows my company that I have the knowledge, abilities, and credentials needed to succeed. It has also given me the courage to take on more difficult projects, and I now have a greater understanding of the ideas and values that underlie the daily work I undertake.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are many extracurricular activities at work that you can participate in. We frequently plan enjoyable and social events like team building exercises, coffee mornings and lunch meetings. We take part in frequent business gatherings and networking activities, as well as having a company sports team. I'm also urged to go to conferences and talks in my field of study to stay current on advancements in mechanical engineering. This enables me to get invaluable information from other business experts in the field.
