  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a make up artist, my job is to create or enhance any look desired by the client. On a daily basis, my responsibilities include consulting with the client, selecting and applying the make up to the client's specifications, and then perfecting and ensuring the client is satisfied with how the final look. I also regularly update my knowledge of current trends, techniques, and products to ensure that the highest standards of care are maintained.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have been able to develop and sharpen my skills since I began my role as a make up artist. I have learned new techniques and tricks to create the perfect look for my clients, as well as refining my skills in working with different types of cosmetics and makeup products. Additionally, I have also gained confidence in playing around with different textures, shades, and hues to achieve the desired outcome, as well as learning how to better read and cater to individual client's needs and requests.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I absolutely love my role as a makeup artist. Not only do I get to express my creative side, but I also have the opportunity to meet a diverse range of people, transforming them with the perfect look. I also enjoy the variety of the job, as each day is different and requires different solutions to get the desired outcome. Working with a variety of products and services is also a great way to stay updated on the latest trends in beauty and fashion, which is something I'm constantly striving to do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well-organised and structured. Although each client is different and the process of creating the perfect look varies accordingly, my typical day involves consulting with the client and understanding their needs and designing a look based on their specifications. I then proceed to apply the makeup and check for mistakes and imperfections. Upon my client’s satisfaction with the final outcome, I proceed to clean and store the products and equipment, before starting the process all over again with the next customer.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a great deal of support from my employer. Not only do I have access to the latest equipment and products, but I am also provided with continuous education and training to ensure I am up to date with the latest trends in the industry. I'm also able to consult and receive feedback from my employer and other more experienced team members to help me better my skills. Additionally, my employer is always willing to lend a helping hand if I encounter any issues and require assistance.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive excellent support from my training provider in working towards my qualifications. Not only am I provided with comprehensive and relevant training material and encouragements to pursue higher qualifications, but I'm also given priority access to useful resources. My training provider also offers regular check-ins with their staff to ensure I'm on track, providing me with helpful advice on where to focus my efforts and what to do next.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I strongly believe my qualification through my training provider has enabled me to better perform in my role. Knowing that I have up-to-date knowledge and the necessary skills helps me feel more confident and in control when on the job. My qualification also allows me to advise my clients with expert advice and be more creative when creating a look, which is something I particularly enjoy. Ultimately, having my qualification provides me with the necessary tools to successfully and effectively execute my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at my workplace. I'm involved in regular team building exercises and social events such as dinner and drinks nights with other team members. Additionally, I have also attended several professional networking events, which have enabled me to meet lots of new people in the beauty industry. I'm also fortunate enough to be part of a fantastic and encouraging team, who have regular team meets to discuss upcoming projects and get creative ideas flowing.

  • Absolutely. Beauty By Design is a great place to work. The atmosphere is always welcoming and friendly, and the team is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I have learned so much since I started here, and I'm constantly learning new skills and techniques. Additionally, the variety of projects and clients we get is always interesting, and I'm continuously inspired by the people I work with.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Beauty By Design?
  • Generally speaking, my advice to anyone applying to Beauty By Design would be to stay up to date with the latest trends in the beauty industry and to be willing to learn and evolve as you develop your skills. Additionally, make sure to be proactive and express your interest and enthusiasm for the role throughout the application process. Lastly, make sure you are prepared to work hard and invest the necessary effort to ensure success and that you have a great support network that can help you along the way.
