  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves the setup, operation and maintenance of audio equipment. On a typical day, I may be involved in setting up and troubleshooting microphones, speakers, amplifiers and other sound equipment for a live event or recording session. I am responsible for setting up the equipment, making sure it is functioning correctly and ensuring that sound is produced at the highest quality. Additionally, I may need to adjust the audio levels and mix during the performance or session. I am also responsible for troubleshooting any technical issues that may arise. I may also be responsible for transporting equipment to and from locations, setting up and striking the gear and ensuring that it is properly stored and maintained.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt and developed a variety of new skills as a sound technician, including a better understanding of audio equipment, techniques for troubleshooting technical issues, and basic mixing skills. I have also further developed my ability to think on my feet, read and interpret technical documents and instructions, and work with people from different backgrounds and cultures. This has enabled me to adapt quickly to different situations and environments. Additionally, working as a sound technician has broadened my understanding of the creative process, allowing me to have better appreciation for the nuances of sound production.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my role and programme immensely. It allows me to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in audio production, while also presenting unique challenges and opportunities. Each job is different, so I am constantly learning and honing my skills. The experience I have gained has also made me a more creative audio engineer, as I am now more comfortable with digital tools and outboard equipment. I also enjoy the camaraderie of working with other professionals, as it allows me to learn from them and share ideas.

  • My programme is highly organised and structured. I am provided with clear instructions and expectations for each task and job, and have access to the most up-to-date resources. I have also developed an effective system for task management that enables me to stay organised and efficient. Additionally, I regularly receive feedback from my supervisor and colleagues, which has enabled me to hone my skills and become a more efficient audio engineer.

  • I receive a great deal of support from my employer. They provide me with the equipment and resources I need to complete my tasks and make sure that I am up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends. They also have excellent communication with their staff, so any questions or issues I have are answered quickly. Additionally, they offer extensive professional development opportunities, so I am able to stay ahead in the sound production field. Finally, I feel respected and valued as an employee, which makes me feel appreciated and motivated to work.

  • I receive a great deal of support from my training provider. They are highly knowledgeable and are always available to answer my questions and explain any concepts that I may be struggling with. Additionally, they have an extensive library of resources and offer regular Q&A sessions that help me to stay ON the right track. Finally, they provide tailored feedback and guidance on my progress towards my qualification, which allows me to make adjustments and changes as needed.

  • My qualification through my training provider has made a significant difference in helping me to perform better in my role. The programme has provided me with a more comprehensive understanding of audio engineering and production, as well as hands-on experience. I now have a more detailed understanding of the fundamentals of sound production, which has allowed me to make quick and accurate decisions while on the job. Additionally, my training has provided me with the skills and confidence to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and efficiently. This has enabled me to work faster and more effectively as a sound technician.

  • Yes, there are a variety of extra-curricular activities that I am able to get involved in at my work. For example, I have been able to join a number of sports teams and attend networking events for professional development. Additionally, I have been able to attend seminars and lectures on topics related to my field, which has allowed me to stay current with the latest industry trends and technologies. Furthermore, I have been able to attend social activities such as team building exercises and Christmas parties. This has allowed me to develop close relationships with my coworkers, which helps create a more enjoyable work environment.
