  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Early Careers team and we recruit and look after our trainee Solicitors and Apprentices. I help screen applications, attend careers fairs to promote our programs and coordinate assessment centres and inductions. I'm also the first point of contact for the team as manage the teams inbox daily. I also provide administrative support to the managers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My apprenticeship and experience within the Early Careers team has helped me build my confidence as I have interacted with multiple internal and external stakeholders. I have also developed my organisation and time management skills as we have multiple projects taking place around the same time. This has allowed me to focus on prioritising my work load and understand which tasks are urgent.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship at Irwin Mitchell. The Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship has helped me to further develop after completing business studies at A Level. I have learnt a lot more useful methods for project management which comes into use daily in my role. I have enjoyed being able to learn off the job and execute my learnings within my role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My Apprenticeship programme has followed a good structure as it has been split into multiple modules which all include interactive and engaging learning methods such as quizzes, videos, articles and ted talks. My training provider assigned me a supportive coach to have one to one meetings to review my work monthly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Irwin Mitchell has provided me with a huge amount of support throughout the duration of my apprenticeship. We have a dedicated apprenticeship manager, Lorcan Seery, who has regular catch ups to ensure I was comfortable with my apprenticeship. My team has also been externally flexible with my off the job learning to ensure I have enough time to complete my modules especially when I had a lot of work to do ahead of my end point assessment with Damar.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I had regular catch ups with my dedicated coach at Damar. Even if we wasn't due a meeting my coach was always available to answer any queries I had. Damar also created an online chat with other apprentices studying towards the same qualification so we could share ideas and support eachother.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The topics I studied throughout my apprenticeship have definitely helped me within my role in Early Careers especially the modules about project management and communication. We have multiple projects/ big events throughout the year so I have spent time understand our current processes and can now bring new ideas for change to the team to make it more efficient.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have volunteered at St Lukes hospice with my team and some members from recruitment as Irwin Mitchel offer 2 paid charity days a year. My team also often go out for food and have team days in other offices which is a great way to meet teams based in other offices and socialise.

  • Yes

  • Irwin Mitchell really cares about employee wellbeing. This is shown through our flexible working policy (Flexible by choice) which allows you to work from a location that suites you along with flexing your hours to fit your home life. I feel extremely valued not only within the Early Careers team but also the whole company.

  • If you are applying for an apprenticeship at Irwin Mitchell don't worry if you haven't had experience within that particular area. We want to hire people apprentices with protentional to succeed and grow into the role at Irwin Mitchell.
