  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a teaching assistant. I work with children who have special educational needs. I assist them with theory and piratical work. I write, read and help explain the work they are completing. I sometimes help out in food and pe practicals. I also offer pastoral care which is what I like doing the best.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have, yes. Talking to a large group of people confidently has been my biggest skill i have developed. I also have learned how to communicate better with students who have EAL or have hearing problems. I have developed my knowledge in most curriculum subjects, e.g maths and science.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. I get to work and study at the same time. I am learning new skills whilst I am getting paid. If I ever have a question I always have someone experienced around me to answer it. There are so many resources for me to use about all different topics.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the programme itself is well organised, I am just struggling a bit at the moment regarding my next steps. I wish there was more pathways I could chose from within the same company but there is not. However, my meetings are always on time and my work is always marker.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel extremely supported, I feel very lucky. If I have a query about anything or anyone there are always people around me to offer help and give advice. My manager often books in sessions for her and In to discuss my progress and if there is anything she can help me with.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Yes also very supportive. If i have any questions I feel as if they will be answered correctly and in a short amount of time. I get advice for my professional discussions and any assignment that I do. They are always marked or talked about with me very soon after they have been uploaded.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I definitely feel my qualification has helped me with my role. I have done an assignment regarding safeguarding which has helped a lot. I have had to deal with a number of safeguarding issues and I felt confident dealing with them as I have had prior knowledge due to the assignment.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a few but I do not attend. The only sport I know of is Pilates, I would have done this but you had to pay. The only social activity is going to the pub after the last day of half-term. There isn't a lot of extra-curricular activities.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is well organised and it takes you to your next step of you career. The staff are all lovely and are all very supportive. The work load isn't stressful and the topics you study come to use when taking in part in your actual job. 100% recommend.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to st simon stock?
  • Read all about your course and what you have to do before you apply, to make sure you know exactly what you are getting yourself in for. Always ask your mentor is you have any questions even if they seem silly to you, they will try to support you the best that they can.
