  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Recruiting into the healthcare sector to provide care staff to Nursing and residential homes. This includes starting the registration process with interviews, right to work checks, booking in for our training, compliance checks and conducting out to work meetings. It's also communicating with clients and what their needs are to ensure we can match up the correct staff for their needs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes - I really enjoyed learning about different legislation in more details and the do and don't of recruitment. It was great being able to also refresh and develop my academic skills and embed some of the skills and knowledge that I already had from being In the role for 2 years prior starting the course.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were times when I questioned why I was doing this after telling myself I wouldn't go back to education after finishing university and came across an element that I really couldn't break down and answer but the course was really informative and relevant to my role which I think helped massively towards the enjoyment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Meetings and targets were set on a regular basis. My tutor changed after the first couple months and as a result was behind on programme however my new tutor set out a clear plan of action on how we can catch up and allowed time for extra meetings to go through work and ensure I was on track.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Minimal, however received a lot of support from a colleague who was also doing the course but was 2 months ahead of me. Minimal time away from work was available to complete the coursework so had to make up for a lot of it in my own time/by having conversations with my colleague on how best to manage.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lots of support was given. She was always available via email for questions that I had or if i needed some guidance to break down answering a questions. The response wasn't always instant but that's just a downside to email correspondence. As previously mentioned, she put the extra time and effort in to get me back on track time wise and make sure I got the course completed in time. I also resigned from my position after completing the course but before getting my certificates and the communication was great. They went above and beyond ensuring I got the certificates and all the work verified in time.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have recently changed roles but feel the knowledge I learnt throughout has impacted massively with my current role and helps ensure that I am practicing safely. It has also encouraged me to develop my learning further in starting my CIPD within the next 12 months. I have also had a better understanding of my role and what I need to do.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As I am new to the role I am yet to start this properly however do get involved with regular meetings with staff both at head office and out in our academies and joining in with networking conversations. Networking is one of my targets to start looking at after I have been in the role for 12 months.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Parasol to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It really helped build my confidence and though at times found the course different it was really rewarding and at times, a lot of the questions was answers that I knew so just needed to find the facts to back up the knowledge. The after care was also amazing and I'm very thankful.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Parasol?
  • Keep focused and ensure you put time aside every week/every couple of weeks to focus on the work and assignments. Use your tutor as much as needed as they are there to help and have so much knowledge that they are able to pass on, even if its not relevant for the assignment.
