I assist newly trained care workers with their job role, ensure they live up to the care working standards by doing spot checks, make sure they feel heard and seen in the company and also manage customer complaints and compliments. I do some office work and ensure my documentation is correct and factual.
Yes, this is a new job role for me, so I am learning a lot about mentoring others. My tasks are completely different to that of a care worker, but some of the skills carry over like interpersonal skills, working professionally and ensuring you provide the best care as a team.
I am enjoying it a lot so far as I enjoy reviewing, reflecting and bettering my practice regardless of my job role. I am excited to see where I will be once I finished my apprenticeship, compared to where I am now and I hope I will do well at the EPA.
Very organised and structured. We use Bud LMS, which provides an easy overview of which activities and tasks I need to complete, and I know who my tutors are and how to reach them should I have any questions. Other than that, my team is at hand to assist as well.
A lot, as we work closely together at all times. We do briefings, discussions, meetings, I shadow the others as needed, and they are always willing to answer any questions I might have. I can't think of anything more I need from them, they are most excellent at supporting me.
I have only just begun my qualification, but so far the process has been swift, easy to get started with and my tutor is available should I need them, and I always know what the next step in the process is and what is expected of me. If I do not, I can always ask.
I feel it will help me a lot, as I have never had a role in which I was a mentor to others before. I have done teaching, but it is different as you are teaching children whereas here I am mentoring adults and that carries different connotations and expectations.
Yes, my work place has several activities, we just recently had a coronation party for one, there will be events over the summer as well with live music among other things, and they provide me with training, courses, conferences and anything else I might need to advance my Continuous Professional Development.
Yes
Because it is a company that cares about your advancement and will help you get your adult care worker levels, should you want them. The office team is personable and social, they work together well and they are always at hand to assist should you need them and the care workers do an excellent job, plus I adore the customers.
To be dilligent in your job role, to take your care work seriously as well as your documentation. To be open and honest and transparent at all times to ensure you have done what is expected of you and to be unafraid of the unforseen, as care work comes with lots of new situations you will not have encountered before, even if you are a veteran in the field.
