Customer Service Engineer Review

My role involves driving to site, typically a hospital or another medical facility, and shadowing an engineer whilst they service/maintain or install/de-install the equipment. I'm provided a company vehicle and have my travel expenses paid and I get to work on really vital healthcare equipment. I go to college once a week and I am gaining skills and experience I can use for the rest of my life.

I have developed my inter-personal skills, and have learnt to be more professional and experience working within a large company. I have developed my engineering knowledge and have been taught loads about electrical engineering, electronic engineering and mechanical engineering. I have learnt more maths, chemistry, biology, physics and engineering. I have also learnt practical skills and have gained hands on experience.

I highly enjoy working at Siemens. I get to work on really advanced medical equipment that saves lives every single day. I'm learning loads of valuable skills and knowledge that I will be able to take with me for the rest of my life. The culture and environment of Siemens is really friendly and welcoming and everyone is really nice.

The program is really well structured. The first year involves 3 days of college doing a Level 2 BTEC and the first year of a level 3 BTEC and a level 3 NVQ. In the second year, college is 1 day per week and goes alongside shadowing engineers on site, the knowledge learnt in college goes alongside the shadowing and they compliment each other.

Siemens as an employer is incredibly supportive. They cover all expenses related to travel and provide an allowance for lunch. The management is incredibly approachable and really friendly. There is constant team involvement and they are really supportive towards the apprentices and take our feedback seriously. They are very supportive.

Stegta has been very supportive of me during my time as an apprentice. Any questions I have had or any queries I have raised have been answered quickly and I have been put in the right direction whenever I have had any questions about course work or about the NVQ itself.

The qualification I am getting is giving me a really good education in engineering and is giving me a great deal of knowledge surrounding it. What I am learning is really relevant to my role, from basic principles to more advanced physics, I can relate what I am learning to the practical things that I do when I am shadowing an engineer.

At Siemens there are regular team meetings where the engineers have a get together and a forum for the engineers that the apprentices are invited to. There is also a twice yearly apprentice forum where they take the apprentices to one of the significant customer sites or company sites and pay for the apprentices to stay at a hotel for a few nights and pay for the apprentices meals on a night out. They also have a yearly engineers night out that the apprentices are invited to if they are over 18.

It is a great company to work for. There is such a variety of opportunities and there is so much freedom in doing the work. I get to drive to a new location every day and work on extremely advanced equipment that saves lives. The management are really supportive and its a great team to work with.

Try your hardest to get a role within Siemens Healthineers. It is such a great company to work for. You will get to see a new place everyday and feel like you are making an impact by working on equipment that saves lives. There is so much that can be learnt and it is skills that will last for life.
