  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I conduct internal audits on a daily basis, for the public and social sector. This involves gathering evidence from the client, analysing it and identifying risks. I use sampling and document reviews to complete my work. My work includes client meetings and walk-throughs. At the end of the week I write a report for my managers review.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication skills, especially in the area of having difficult conversations. Oftentimes, my audit findings can be negative and improvements are needed from the client. I have to communicate these findings during the closing meeting and it can be challenging to express negative opinions, however with practice I have found that I manage these conversations with more ease.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it a lot - there is a good balance between working independently, but also I have a lot of support from my team, seniors and peers. I like that the work is varied and I get a chance to work with different clients within my sector. The professional qualification offers greater scope for development too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is really well structured. My line manager supports my study pathway and I get five study days per study level (fifteen days in total.) I am always clear on what project I am working on, when I have to do certain tasks and what are the expectations from the team and client.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive. There are processes in place to support my study time, as well as work. I know who to turn to for support for any issue I might have, whether it is work related or to do with my well-being. I feel that there are plenty of resources to ensure that I lead a balanced life.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider has a structured programme in place to support my study. I know what I need to do and when in order to pass my exams and so far I have not had any issues regarding the resources and materials I can use to study for my exams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The role is a strong basis for me to become an expert in my work. The ACA covers a variety of topics which are important in this field so I feel that whether in this role or any future team I might join, I will have a great level of knowledge to work well.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty! There is some time of activity every evening (and sometimes lunch and mornings). My company organises sports clubs, networking events, language societies - anything that our colleagues may be interested in. Also, each team organises events as well to improve team bonding so I feel like my company has a strong community feel.
