  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am second in command of a McDonald's restaurant.I am in charge of daily accounts and ensuring that restaurant operations are adhered to. Reviewing KPI's to ensure that customer service is fast and the food they receive is a good quality, coaching managers in my team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt great skills in managing people. I am able to train and empower others in the organisation. I have learnt how to handle financials within the restaurant and looking in depth to resolve problems. I am also developing on existing skills such as food safety procedures.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme as it enables me to learn of more than just my job and role and broadens my understanding further to that of business. I have found that my knowledge has been consolidated and also have found areas that need work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured the programme is. As long as you are organised you will be able to keep up with the demand of the course. You are also able to get the help if you need it. you are supported all the way. Its great to have classmates also.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my employer. I just need to be able to manage myself. Its hard when at work to concentrate on my degree programme as you just want o get stuck in with menial tasks. I do find it beneficial to use the time at work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I get a great amount of support and the programme is really well designed. they are very conscious of the fact that I have a full time job and they seem to ensure that we have the right time for things. sometimes rescheduling a teaching week if restaurant busy.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that I am more mature, more knowledgeable. More able to find a problem and research it, and find a solution. Be able to present it in a professional format.I find that it has broadened my mind and has enabled me to be passionate about my job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I don't get involved in any extra-curricular events yet there are a few floating around that would be there for me to attend should I wish to. The events all seem to be very industry focused and I would look to attend some in the future.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend McDonalds because it is a fast paced environment that seems to make you experience all the elements of business and retail management. its a really good place to start, where anyone can climb the ladder if they so wish to.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • I would say that you should allow yourself to be curious and ask questions all the time. try and learn a new thing every day and if you feel like you don't know how to do something then go off and try and understand it.
