  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role, I provide a reporting an analytical service to my internal clients. I specifically look at costs, mainly carrying out month end reports to be provide management with transparent information and analysis. I also carry out some management accounting which involves setting budgets and plans and providing estimates and forecasts. I am also involved in looking at currency exchange rates and the effect this has on our cost base.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am constantly provided with the opportunity to learn new skills and develop existing ones. I am constantly developing my communication and teamworking skills through collaboration with my colleagues. New skills I have learnt include many technical skills like excel and other new applications that I use on a day to day basis and I am provided with the opportunity to complete training on these to advance my ability. Another valuable skill that I have been given the chance to develop is the ability to network through events set up by the bank. This has allowed my to gain a wider understanding of my role and learn from other people's experiences.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much due to the large opportunity for growth and development. I enjoy the responsibility and trust put into me by my superiors as well as the requirement to always be learning in order to fulfil my job role and also. The people I am surrounded by also makes it enjoyable as everyone is very helpful and friendly and there is always someone available to go to for support.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been very well organised since day one. In the build up to my first day there was very clear communication of information and always someone available to get any necessary clarification. Our introductory week was very well structured with lots of interactive and educational sessions. Since joining, everything has been very clear in terms of my job role, expectations and the qualification.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer in any way that I need it. We have different support systems that we can go to including our line manager, a mentor and a buddy so always have someone to go to with any problems or if advice is required. There are also other types of support like an on-site GP, and other benefits to take advantage of.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a good amount of support from my training provider, as each student has a dedicated coach who we can contact at any time with questions. The quality of teaching is also very high and we are provided with all the right resources in order to be fully prepared for our exams. Our training provider also organises skills days, where we are given the opportunity to develop soft skills like teamworking.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has definitely helped me perform better in my role as the content we are taught directly relates to what I do. This includes a comprehensive understanding of business structures, tax processes, financial statements and management accounting. The qualification also includes skills days which focus on things like working in a business environment, teamworking, managing professional relationships and leading yourself. I have been able to implement things leant in these sessions in order to work more effectively.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra-curricular activities and events organised that help to network with colleagues and create a good culture in the bank. There are regular social events both within teams and on a larger scale across the bank, and also sports teams to join and things like runs to go on. We have also got several networks set up, which are groups formed around a common subject that you can join, and each network sets up a large variety of events throughout the year.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend UBS as a place to work as the culture inside the bank is extremely inclusive and everyone is very kind and friendly. There is also very good opportunity for career development and for you to grow both personally and professionally. You will also be provided with a lot of support not only in your job role but with any personal issues as well.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • In order to be successful in applying to UBS, you need to spend time researching UBS and your job role until you have a comprehensive understanding of both. Make sure you have clear reasons for why you want to work at UBS. Also be confident in yourself and make sure to display all your best attributes and be proud of your past achievements. It is also key to show a genuine interest by engaging in conversation and asking questions.
