  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Completing declarations for products to be exported and imported out of the country, and ensuring work is carried out on my team; that I am reaching the daily amount of jobs completed. The role involves having a lot of exposure within the business and networking with different customers and employees.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've been able to develop my personal skills such as my confidence and communicational skills, by interacting with many different individuals during work meetings, working on teams and attending networking events. I've been able to gain on the job experience by working on site and off the job experience through attending university.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is very challenging and pushes you out of your comfort zone which has enabled me to better develop my skills, the job itself can be quite repetitive with a lot of the work being the same data inputting process every day, which can be dull and tiring sometimes.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My role requires me to move around different teams within customs, some teams I've moved to are quite under prepared to train me and often leave me to it, which I find myself unmotivated at times whereas some teams I have joined are amazing and fully provide me with every bit of support I need.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support is generally good with many people who I can talk to if I am in need of help, being an apprentice many employees within the company are happy to help me progress by offering their support, but as an apprentice I haven't got a strict job role so many managers I have worked with have struggled to keep me on a routine which leaves me lost in some moments for jobs to do.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support is of a high standard especially as most of the studying is remote, email responses are quick from teachers and lectures are informative and constructive. 1 to 1 meetings can be arranged with the teachers if you are struggling with the content, you still are able to meet physically every other month with the teachers so you don't completely miss out on face to face learning.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Learning supply chain management at degree level has greatly improved my confidence and my ability to apply my new found knowledge to my working practice, by being able to offer solutions and my own perspective on work matters. The qualification is not yet complete so I'm still yet to see all the benefits at my work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many events that take place within my company such as, marathons, football, charity events etc for all employees, for my job I am able to network more often and go out to events to meet other apprentices or to meet senior management within my organisation, I do this by visiting other company sites and other sites within my company.
