  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role in my home team involves testing and planning tests for the Jaguar Land Rover PIVI Infotainment system software. I am currently in a placement where I am scripting automated tests in order to test a web application.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to use JIRA which is an issue management system used by the business. Furthermore I have learnt how to plan and create test cases which can then be executed on the vehicle. I have also learnt scripting of tests for a web app.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Yes, I enjoy the programme as I get to learn the importance and how to execute tests on both web applications and the Jaguar Land Rover Infotainment software which will impact the experience of the end-user.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme from a university perspective is well-organised and efficiently run. From a work-based perspective it is also well-run however one area of improvement would be to have the Apprenticeship team plan our placements in intervals throughout the apprenticeship to ensure we maximise our learning potential.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is substantial support available from the employer. The Apprenticeship (Early Careers) team provides support during periods of illness and is a central point to discuss any issues you may be dealing with.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In terms of completing university assignments this fully relies on your own work as they are mostly individually or group assessed pieces of work. However, the lecturers are largely supportive when dealing with any questions you may have regarding the content taught.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that there are some parts of the Digital Technology Solutions BSc degree that are useful in our roles. For instance, modules which involve programming/scripting improve our knowledge of how to code which have then been used in role. However there are some modules which don't affect our role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are extra-curricular activities that you can get involved with including football, pool and social events. I am not currently a member of any sports teams however I do often attend social events with other apprentices which are often at a pub or a restaurant.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Jaguar Land Rover for an apprenticeship because there are many development/progression opportunities, the salary is competitive and is a company that is suitable for a long term career.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • A few pieces of advice would be to showcase your interest and knowledge in the apprenticeship you're applying for. For example, if you are applying to Digital Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship you should highlight any previous work experience you have had or any personal/school projects you've undertaken.
