  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Savills Southern Region Building and Project Consultancy team undertaking instructions in several sectors such as Healthcare, Retail, leisure, Logistics, Offices, Industrial, and residential. I practice a range of general practice Building Surveying disciplines including, Design and Contract Administration, Dilapidations, Party walls, Reinstatement Cost Assessments, Building Surveys, Defect Analysis and Planned Preventative Maintenance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed skills and experience working in a range of different sectors such as Healthcare, Retail, leisure, Logistics, Offices, Industrial, and residential. I have learned and developed skills in a range of general practice Building Surveying disciplines including, Design and Contract Administration, Dilapidations, Party walls, Reinstatement Cost Assessments, Building Surveys, Defect Analysis and Planned Preventative Maintenance.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the challenge that the job role brings every day, with every day offering a different challenge. I really enjoy carrying out inspections on a wide range of property types, ages, and styles which provides me with excellent exposure to further my knowledge base and experience. I also enjoy the culture at Savills where there is a large diversity of people and skillset meaning support and guidance are never far away when required.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is very well organised providing me with excellent support and guidance both internally at Savills and externally at UCEM. My university objectives are clear and I am given the tools to support my learning and organise my diary which helps me to develop my own time management and organisation skills.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My Employer provides me with excellent support and guidance with university work and looking forward to the APC. My employer is aware of my commitments with the university and is respectful of the Mandatory Off The Job Learning hours which I am obligated to record. Savills provide all apprentices which invaluable APC guidance and additional CPD hours throughout the program.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The program is very well organised providing me with excellent support and guidance both internally at Savills and externally at UCEM. My university objectives are clear and I am given the tools to support my learning and organise my diary which helps me to develop my own time management and organisation skills.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My university modules, particularly in my last 2 years aim to provide real-life applicable skills in areas such as Dilapidations, Party walls, and Building Pathology. I am given the tools to support my learning and organise my diary to ensure I receive the right balance of university classroom learni ng and practical application in the workplace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many opportunities to network with my peers, both internally and externally. Savills provide an opportunity to join a variety of best practice business groups and committees, as well as groups for sports such as skiing, rugby, golf, cricket, football, and many more. The culture is built on people and therefore have the opportunity to mix in business and leisure settings is invaluable to developing interpersonal relationships and strengthening business networks.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
  • Make sure you allow all of your best attributes and experience to shine through on CVs, covering letters, and interviews. Don't be afraid to ask questions during the application process and ensure you have a soluid undertanding on the business, the culture, the history, and the opportunity that you are applying for.
