  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I look after Learning and capabilities for our UK and Ireland Customer Development teams. This involves managing the annual budget, coordinating with external training providers and recruiting employees to attend courses. I am responsible for making sure the budget isn't exceeded, employees are recruited into relevant courses for their role and liaising with senior leaders to ensure my plan aligns with the wider business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt and developed many skills since being on my apprenticeship. I am able to manage a considerately large budget as well as over 300 employees which I am responsible for their development. I am able to comfortably present my ideas as well as professionally dealing with situations that I would've previously found difficult to manage.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a lot. I have broadened my professional network significantly as well as building friendships. I like the fact that we are treated like any other employee, and given responsibilities and control to make projects our own. I am able to manage my work as well as uni work which allows me to still do things I enjoy in my free time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured for the most part. We are able to track our progress and results. However, personally I would appreciate more forward thinking from tutors to make our work load more manageable and be fully prepared for what is to follow. Projects are allocated well and communication is given as much as needed by students.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Unilever provide great support towards my course. Whether that be helping with project ideas or the implications of those projects. Our workload is regularly managed to ensure we aren't under to much pressure and have enough time for our dedicated study day. Unilever are also flexible with our study days to accommodate for important deadlines.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The basic support is provided by the training provider, and if more support is required, it is generally received when followed up. Although I have learnt to make it work, more support in terms of feedback and how I can improve would be desired to ensure I can maximise my development as much as possible.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am able to directly relate what I learn in Uni to my role or previous roles I have worked in since being with Unilever. This makes learning a lot more rewarding as I can directly see how it helps me in my role or recognise why certain things don't work,

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are endless opportunities for extra-curricular activities to get involved in at Unilever. Teams have social activities at least once per year for people to network and get to know each other better. The offices have gyms where employees are able to workout or engage with the PTs as well as charity sporting events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Unilever creates a friendly, supportive working environment which encourages each employee to develop themselves. Flexibility is provided with a hybrid working model as well as further flexibility which can be agreed on a personal basis with manager. The team work and comradery at Unilever is an environment that allows people to thrive.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • Be true to yourself, all differences are accepted and encouraged at Unilever. Also take on the feedback given by the interviewer. Be open and willing to experience new things and to come out of your comfort zone. Take up opportunities as they arise and don't be afraid to challenge and push yourself.
