  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Power Platform Developer. My role as a Degree Apprentice is to have one day a week dedicated to my learning and studies, here I carry out assignments. The rest of my time is spent on project work, where I use power apps and power automate to help provide business solutions. At the start of my apprenticeship I also would create canvas apps to aid my learning.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before starting the degree apprenticeship I have little technical skills, and zero knowledge of coding. I since have built up these skills and my knowledge of the Power fx programming language. The more I familiarise myself with the Power Platform the more I expand my skills. My communication has definitely been built up since starting as communication in project work is key.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the program I am on, I had a passion of technology before starting but this has since grown the more I am around it. I am learning new things every day and given a good amount of support when I need it. I really enjoy having a balance between work and learning. The QA sessions are very participative and I learn a lot from them.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well structured, we are given set times for our learning and Fujitsu is very flexible if needs be. There is plenty of support for all and a clear structure of who you can turn to if you need help. You never sit there with nothing to do, there is always something there for you to progress on to.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Just enough. We have support always available to us when we need it, if we are struggling with something people will always make themselves available to assist us. You are never thrown 'into the deep end' unless they can see this would benefit you. As long as you ask for it, support is always there.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Plenty. There are office hours every Thursday which we can drop into and ask questions if we are struggling. We are also given contact details if we need further support. Support is always there in sessions too as they always encourage questions and will make sure your questions are answered.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am able to get a greater understanding of technology through my qualification, we have learnt about information systems so far and the components that make up these. I am able then to understand IT better in my role as a software developer, and see which Information Systems Fujitsu use.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are loads of networking events, Early Careers host events in different offices where you can meet fellow apprentices and leadership, travel to these events is also covered by Fujitsu. Social activities are planned between yourselves, but they are encouraged and apprentices are given a budget to go towards these social events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Fujitsu to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Fujitsu is a great place to work, everyone is so friendly and approachable, making it easy to ask for help when you need it. It is a very flexible environment with the 'work your way' scheme and a weekly wellbeing hour. The office is a great environment. There is plenty of support given to you and overall Fujitsu treats its employees fantastic.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fujitsu?
  • Be passionate. As long as you are passionate about your role that you've applied for the skills can be worked on and built up. Someone who is passionate about their job and is always willing to learn and develop their skills is valuable. Show passion for the role you are applying for and why you are passionate about it.
