I am a chartered manager apprentice at a training provider for hairdressers. I look after funding for apprenticeships, recruitment of employers and apprentices and I am also in charge of employer and apprentice engagement. I take care of employer and apprenticeship contracts and make sure all apprentices are happy in their workplace.
I have definitely worked on my confidence as I was very low in confidence when I first started but now I have developed so much. My communication skills have also grown and become a lot more formal and professional in the work setting. I’ve learnt a variety of skills in the funding department which allow me to carry out my job properly.
I really enjoy my apprenticeship degree programme as I am very hands on and I get to learn whilst on the job. I also get the free time to complete my assignments for university and it’s nice to get input from my co-workers as I have a good support network to help me.
My programme is very organised and I have a good understanding of what I will be focusing on for the next three years. It also helps that my timetable is a year in advance so I can book my training days in at work so I don’t miss anything.
My employer is very supportive and I get a lot of extra off the job training activities which she books for me. I get the opportunity to attend different conferences, networking events and webinars on my specific subject area. This allows me to upload as many off the job logs.
My training provider is very helpful and I get support weekly. My tutors give me good feedback which helps me advance my work. We also have 3 month reviews which my training provider and employer are present to discuss the progress I’ve made within the workplace and at Leeds Trinity University.
I feel like I have already gained valuable knowledge, skills and behaviours to put into practice in my workplace as it allows me to put into practice what I have learnt at my training provider. It doesn’t just help me but the other staff I work with as everyone gets involved.
We have two big conferences every year which allows us to meet other professionals in the same industry. We recently also won an award in apprenticeships and we will be heading to the House of Lords in London to have a lunch with all the other winners which will be good.
Yes
I really enjoy working at my company as I get to have some great experiences and I have met loads of new people in work and at training. An apprenticeship here has allowed me to grow within myself and do something which I never thought I would be doing which is great.
Prepare and research about the company and be confident in yourself. Make sure you think of questions which you would like to ask as it shows that you are interested in the company and the course which you may be applying for. Also have a look on their social medias to see what they are about.
