I come in to work and load up the van then I drive to the job site. And unload any tools or materials in the van, I then get on with any work that needs completing that day and do as much as I can, then pack. Up tools at the the end.
I have learnt a lot of new skills whilst doing my apprenticeship especially as I have been working with an experienced joiner for the past two years. I have also learnt a lot of skills in college that I can take in to work and use on site day to day.
I enjoy my programme as I continue to learn new skills in both college and at work which means I am getting closer and closer to becoming a qualified jojner and carpenter, therefore I can hopefully be taken on full Time with my company and get my own van and start my own jobs.
My programme is very well structured as each week we go through different things in college to make sure we cover all the basics as well as the difficult stuff. I like the fact that I get a lot of off the job training as well as on the job
I received a lot of support from my employer as they let me go to college every week to learn new skills, they are also checking up on my pregess a lot to make sure I am doing okay in work and see if I need any more extra support
They help me with my qualifications as they let me go to college every single week to my college training, they also help me out by letting me use the tools at work that I need experience with to be able to complete my nvq portfolio, this helps a lot
My qualification is directly linked to my everyday role in work, all the stuff I learn in college I can take these directly into work and use them on site this works both ways as the skills I have learnt on site I use them to in my time at college
My work doesn't offer any extra circular activities such as sports teams or networking events, howere I do a lot of overtime at work which increases my wage and I also went on the works do at Christmas last year so I'm not sure if that counts as networking
No
I wouldn't recommend this company to a friends as they don't also have the best jobs on sites and you end up doing a lot of trades jobs such as ripping floors up for floor layers and scraping walls for decoraters as we are the main contractor on most jobs
This firm is mostly looking for experienced trades and people who will do everything, be prepared to go a long time without actually doing any Joinery for example if the firm is quiet you will be cutting the bosses grass at his house and cleaning stones on his drive etc
