  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a Ford commercial service manager involves me running an aftersales department on a daily basis. This involves a team brief in the morning to assess the days work. I will then have a WIP review to ensure all jobs are on track. My other tasks include replying to emails, checking KPI's, aged WIP, aged debtors plus many other tasks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • At Motus commercials i am always learning new skills. I have moved from a technician role to a management role which has enabled me to enhance my already existing skill and learn plenty of new ones. Some of the skills that i have learned are people management, building relationships and different coaching and mentoring techniques.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme and the course content. The only issue that i find is trying to find a course/job balance as there is a lot of work to do and my role is very demanding. As we are busy department with a small amount of staff one of us being away can be detrimental to the running of the department.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is relatively well organised/structured. There are a lot of different platformas that need to be accessed to carry out different parts of the course. OTJ, Canvas, skills forward, eassessor, etc. It would be much better if the course could be streamlined in to one place. The OTJ tracker would be better as an online tool that is part of eassessor rather than having to do a seperate spreadsheet. Also i'm on my 3rd tutor in 6 months which hasn't helped.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is a great help. Although we don't have a lot of contact about the course if i need anyting they are always there to support me. As i am the most senior level of management on the Ford side at our dealership i choose when i do the coursework and sometimes that's not a great thing as i know how much work i will have to come back to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I get plenty of support from my training provider. My tutor is very active and engaging regards course material and lecturing. I can directly e mail my tutor and i know that they will get back to me within 24 hours. The support received has been excellent. The material but on the different systems by the training provider is also relevant and a big help with the course.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Previous to this qualification i completed a Ford focus on leadership course which has put me in a good position for this course as a lot of the material was covered during that. The material within this course provides me with new coaching techniques, tips on how to manage my team and also helps me self evaluate myself from a third person perspective.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have an intranet here at Motus Commercials which provides us with details of activities. There aren't any sports teams which is a shame but myself and some of my colleagues sometimes arrange our own racket activities. The majority of events are charity related usually involving walking or cycling long distances. The last social activity that we engaged in was crazy golf which i arranged.

  • 9a. Would you recommend MOTUS Commercials to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Motus commercials to a friend because they are always willing to give people with no experience a chance to complete an apprenticeship and gain new skills. They are also a strong believer of promoting from within the company. I started as a vehicle technician and have worked my way up to service manager. Our MD started off in accounts and has been promoted to the level he is now at.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MOTUS Commercials?
  • If you are applying to Motus commercials show us what your strengths are. If you are a hard worker who is dedicated to the task at hand then we are always willing to give you a shot. As i explain to staff if you have the right attitude and are willing to work then the rest of the skills can be learned.
