  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Communicating with numerous, often new, stakeholders involved on the same or similar projects to that which I am working on. Independently working and supporting fellow colleagues with varying tasks that traverse avenues of change control, programme/project management, handling of numerical and lingual data, and communicative tasks (having a chat).

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Coming to understand a new subject matter, i.e. construction, has developed plenty of new insights. The obvious is that of those direct practical skills used in my job, but at the top of the list goes the improvement of my core soft skills. Communicating, confidence and helping achieve value.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Yeh, massively. I've loved getting to meet new people and expand my own horizons. It's all about becoming the best version of yourself, and this has been a great vice at achieving that thus far. Who knows what the future holds too, hopefully this journey'll allow me to make a good difference.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It's incredibly liberating. As an individual the responsibility resides on yourself to hit deadlines and manage your own progression. This may seem daunting, but the backing of teams and the wider communities of which you consist provide the assistance required to push yourself in a healthy direction, should you feel overwhelmed or in need of support.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As much as I can ever ask for. Even if those you may usually turn to find themselves to be away or otherwise occupied, there tends to be somebody that's more than happy to offer help. We have periodical check-ins with managers to iron out any issues, catch up and plan ahead too. Help will always be given at Hogwarts.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Similarly, the onus is on you to seek help. That's simple enough. But when required it's always at hand, regarding time-availability. Monthly tutor meetings to keep ahead and ensure pastoral soundness is always a help. Lecturer meetings are also available at request should you need specific modular help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Tailoring skills, behaviours and knowledge to ones own work allows visible connections to be made between practice and theory. It's also proactive to meet new people who share and use similar practices within different environments and understanding how different takes on the same actions can bring about better (or worse) outcomes.

    9/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Post-pandemic we are looking to reinvigorate some social aspects. 5-a-side football is something that we used to do and are looking to bring back. We do get involved with various networking socials within the property/construction industry too, so a karaoke night out is never off the cards. At the moment teams are fairly new, so bringing us all together in mutually enjoyable events is the brainstorming play.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Gleeds to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • In the least-bias light that I can muster, Gleeds is a great place to begin your career. I can't delve further than that at this time - I have no personal experience of work later on in life, but Gleeds' prioritisation of individuals, welfare and their commitment to training provides a quality environment, brimming with support, to develop and grow.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Gleeds?
  • I'd advocate on the side of authenticity. Most of the time a company can afford to up-skill you, but it's next to impossible to create an authentic character. Your skills matter, naturally, but individuals matter too. Most of life will involve communicating and getting on with people, expressing that quality will be one of the most sought after traits as the world keeps spinning.
