  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Being an Apprentice, it involves being able to adapt to different work on a day to day basis, such as studying for exams, being in the workshop/hangars etc. Being an Apprentice, allows myself and others to gain rewarding amounts of knowledge and then apply it directly in the working environment.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Better interpersonal skills have been achieved by mixing with people within my group/cohort. Being able to work in the workshop and hangar also improved my hand skills regarding tools and better work and understanding was made on the importance of tool husbandry.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I knew that being on this apprenticeship with British airways was going to be fun, but ever since I started I’ve been blown away by the opportunities and how fun the apprenticeship has been. The apprenticeship isn’t easy, with exams etc… but British Airways help you along every step of the way, they always make you feel like they are always reassuring you that you are part of the bigger picture!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure and organisation of my apprenticeship has been set out very strategically to ensure the apprentice gets the best timing for work to be completed, modules and exams have been set up in a certain order that makes more sense and allows certain information to be carried on over to assist with studies and exams, this is all thanks to the great management of British Airways’ engineering apprentice team!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training provider offers the highest professional courses and teachers. Everyone knows exactly what they are talking about and they have many, many years of experience in engineering. They always offer great ways to revise for exams and involve everyone in lessons to make sure everyone understands what is being said.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the better the training and learning the better our performances will be when it comes to the real world. For example, one module is based around maintenance practices, consisting of tools, workshop and hangar tasks. The better the training in these environments the more we can apply it to our working environment in British Airways. We would also have more familiarity of the way things are operating.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • British Airways overs involved with many networking events, recently it has been pilot careers events and we were also present recently at the Excel in London, regarding jobs and life at BA.
