  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a data analyst apprentice involved learning many new skills on how to successfully gather and collect relevant data to then transform into insights that would benefit the way in which multinational brands marketed to consumers. Some key aspects of my role included gathering data, data visualisation, generating insights, engaging with stakeholders, presenting and managing projects..

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • When I started this role, I had no previous experience in an office environment or in the data industry. Therefore, I was provided with extensive training and support on how to gather data and generate insights which impacted my critical thinking skills that help me approach problems day to day. I also learnt multiple new skills on how to engage with various personality types and take the lead among stakeholders.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I loved my apprenticeship and the programme that I studied! I was enrolled on the level 3 business associate apprenticeship which allowed me to deepen my understanding on general business knowledge and better comprehend the workings and operations of a business. I was also presented with opportunities to shadow and experience different industries which has been valuable to me in discovering my passions.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I found the programme extremely well structured. I had monthly coaching sessions with an experienced and well educated mentor from my training provider which allowed me sufficient time to complete assignments and have regular support. We also had masterclasses regularly which allowed me to further deepen my learning and discuss with other apprentices on the programme the information in which we were learning.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received amazing support from my employer! I had weekly check ins with my manager that created a safe space to check in on projects and speak openly about my goals and opportunities for the future. I was provided with regular training sessions and given opportunities to learn and experience first hand areas of my own interest.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I felt that I was provided with sufficient support from my training provider throughout my apprenticeship. I had one to one sessions with a coach and business teacher which gave me a space to develop my own personal goals and ask questions. I was also provided with resources and workbooks to help me further develop and work toward my qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has allowed me to deepen my knowledge on the wider business and the daily operations of the organisation that I work in. It has helped me to understand various ways stakeholders communicate, how teams operate and work together to produce one overall goal, and therefore how I can appropriately work with other teams to complete my daily responsibilities.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, as an apprentice there are many opportunities to get involved with supporting new apprentices to successfully complete their new role in the same way you have. There are also many social opportunities to network with other apprentices, along with meeting many senior stakeholders to learn more about the business and support you in your future.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Unilever is an amazing company to start your career in. I was given numerous opportunities being in the company to learn, progress, network, and further develop my own interests and passions. As an apprentice, I was also given support by those in my team and in other departments to listen to me and help me on my quest to discover my career path.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • Be yourself! Unilever want to hear from you and have a wide range of unique and diverse individuals from every background. Unilever gives you a platform and a voice to learn what you want to learn and begin your career journey. So you don't need to know exactly what you want to do yet, just have a willing and positive attitude to learn!
