  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • An accounts Support, assists the accountants in handling their client’s accounting. Examples of what I do is preparing and submitting VAT returns, filing their accounts for their year end which is for their corporation tax, submitting confirmation statements and assisting clients with any query’s they have, making calls to HMRC chasing tax refunds etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This role is completely new to me, I have only been in this role for 3 months and I feel i have learnt so many new skills and developed existing skills.Some being time management, as their are many clients which need many tasks being done for them. My accuracy skills is also a new one I developed as this role requires a great attention to detail.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I haven’t experienced anything like this before i enjoy that I am able to work and also have lessons and keep learning while working. This is a huge advantage for me as i want the qualification as well as experience. I enjoy the actual tasks I have to complete day to day as I have now experience in this

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe it is very organised, as there is a set day where I have a lesson, it’s at the same time every week they also give you one week off every month near the end of month/ beginning because of VAT deadline. I do think there could be some improvement which the amount of time I have to complete apprenticeship work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I believe my employer is supportive as they ask me weekly how my lessons are going and how I’m feeling about the work load as well as lesson.My trainer is also supportive as they constantly ask if we need extra time on teams or to send an email to help up.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe I have a lot support from my training provider as we get set homework which we go through every lesson after, we have progress reviews, if we don’t understand something or would like more support additional lesson time is available or we can send an email and if there’s a chance we go through it next lesson.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The lessons are super helpful with my role it makes answering query’s a lot easier, the terminology used i understand more as we go through them in lessons. I haven’t had many lessons but from other colleagues they have said that certain modules are super helpful and I am already understanding why!

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am not completely sure, I am very new to my team. My company likes to do social things where we all can get together when Covid isn’t restricting us, we did plan a Christmas get together but unfortunately couldn’t happen. I think this is something I will have to look into if my work offers any activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend SJD Accountancy to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Paragon skills is a good provider as we have good access to help, information and if I ever am stuck I have access to many platforms to get help if my trainer isn’t available. I also think my company is also very good for apprentices, very supportive and provide us with all support needed.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SJD Accountancy?
  • I would say just be yourself, which everyone says. During my interviewing process I felt like I was able to be comfortable and be myself. I would suggest looking into the company to see if it’s right for you as if you apply without looking the employer will see if your interested or not.
