  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role is split 50/50 between Project Support and Internal Communications. My Apprenticeship is in PR & Communications so for the purposes of this I will focus on that. I am responsible for supporting our Communications Manager in all aspects of internal communications for our two sites in the UK, Bradford and Grimsby.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my masterclass sessions which are held once per month. My mentor offers fantastic support, along with our Apprenticeship Manager. I have many people I can reach out to for guidance and assistance both internally and within the apprenticeship provider, JGA. Being challenged and learning new skills is something I am really enjoying.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship is extremely well organised and structured. From Day One I have had a very clear pathway with details of topics to be covered in each Masterclass laid out in an infographic. Expectations of what is expected of me, with clear deadlines has also been shared from Day One.

  • The training provider are also extremely supportive. • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel much more confident within my role as I have a better understanding and experience of the topics. Learning the industry models is very useful and I can share these with others within my organisation. Having the opportunity to learn about new tools and software has been very useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have been with the company for over 28 years now and am undertaking this apprenticeshipe as an upskilling opportunity. I am therefore not looking for social interaction with other apprentices. However, our company does offer a Sports & Social club which unfortunately has been hindered recently due to COVID. I do know we have great networking events for the full time apprentices.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They really are keen to attract, develop and retain employees. There are so many people with years and years of knowledge who are generous with their time and support. I feel very lucky to have the support of a full time Apprenticeship Manager, this certainly helps and you never feel alone.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Solenis?
  • You get out what you put in. They are a really supportive company if you are willing to work hard and show your willingness to progress. The opportunities are there if you want them, just ask. You need to push yourself out of your comfort zone sometimes to acheive your full potention and Solenis will be there to support all the way.
