  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role of HRBP within Dixons Carphone involves partnering key stakeholders across the corporate function. This includes working with teams to implement our people plan across the function. I also support teams with other people scenarios and ensure they are able to get the detail as quickly as possible to support them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a number of new skills through my role and the apprenticeship. These include effective communication to senior leaders which I have had to develop to ensure I can partner my stakeholders effectively. I have also developed my problem solving skills by building and developing key relationships across the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme and it has enabled me to put learnings into practice. I have struggled mainly with the juggling of work load between the course and the day job but this has been made harder by the situation with the pandemic and having to learn a totally new way of working along side the course.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the course could be organized and structured better. We have had examples of calls not been attend by advisors and also the communication between the provider has not been great. My advisor [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been fantastic and when we talk I have really valued the feedback and direction.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received good support from my employer and have regular conversations with my line manager around how they can support me. They have also allowed me to implement alot of my learning through getting me involved in projects and being able to lead certain programs which have supported my development.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Similar to the above question. Support is there but my feedback would be that it feels that the training provider has too many colleagues for the number of advisors. I have struggled with some of the deadlines but have not received any conversation about what they can do to support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualification has helped me develop in role and therefore helped me to perform better. I learn best through doing so I have much valued the opportunity of getting involved in projects and networking with other colleagues to shadow them and understand how they contribute to the business success etc.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have started to develop more wellbeing agendas over recent months which I have been able to get involved in however I think there is an opportunity to develop this across each of the business areas. I wouldn't say we have much available in this space currently but local areas would do this more so than the business.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Dixons Carphone to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have been with Dixons Carphone for 16 years and they have given me the space and opportunity to develop and grow. There is always things that could be done better but essentially I feel valued here and feel I can contribute to the business development and success and that is why I would recommend DC as a place to work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • Be ready for an exciting and fast paced business that is forever changing to meet the needs of their customers. We have a lot of amazing colleagues around the business that are there to support you and help you to succeed in your role. I have nothing to compare it against but working here is very rewarding.
