My overall role included working with retailer agencies to deliver competitive marketing and also work with the Unilever brand teams to deliver marketing material that aligns with their above-the-line campaigns and purpose. I would also look after the team's financials and ensure suppliers were being paid on time and in full.
I have learned many new skills while completing my apprenticeship and doing my day-to-day role! I would say the most valuable was being able to grow so much confidence since being able to communicate and work with people of all different ages and experience and really gaining marketing knowledge at the same time as sales-based knowledge.
I found the program was not as enjoyable as my role. I feel my role gave me a lot more knowledge of business and really developed the knowledge I have already gained from A level Business. Much of the Programme and apprenticeship work consisted of knowledge I had already learned so therefore I found this a bit repetitive.
I would say my Programme wasn't well organized as to begin the contractors did not get in contact with us and start the program until about 3 months into our Apprenticeship and I also feel as though there were many changes during the program like tutor changes and adaptions to living in a covid world that meant structure was thrown off.
I think my employer was a great support during my apprenticeship and following my apprenticeship to help support me in getting a role. They ensure the health and safety of all staff and gave great support over covid! I would say my employer has shown great integrity and support for all staff!
I received moderate yet inconsistent support from my training provider while completing my apprenticeship as I felt the first 12 months there was a lack of communication and support but then towards the end, we were supplied with all the resources in order to perform to our best ability at the end of our apprenticeship.
I feel that I used my qualification as a stepping stone to work for Unilever as I had already passed my Business Alevel I wanted to secure a job with a reputable company such as Unilever and without a degree or the university program I felt this was the best way to achieve that. I would say the job I was doing at the time was in fact a lot more career and skills-building than the programme itself.
I have often kept myself away from these opportunities within Unilever however there are many opportunities available if you would enjoy the social and networking side. Unilever also was able to adapt very well to covid and ensure social events and team challenges were also still able to go ahead safely and virtually.
Yes
I would recommend Unilever to a friend as I feel they show their people-based culture very well and are very supportive and acknowledging of their staff. I also think they have high but achievable expectations of their staff which allows for growth and development as an individual. The flexible hours are also great for people with different responsibilities.
I would say also be yourself and ensure you have a positive attitude to work and your job role. There are many opportunities so bite at any chances you like the sound of. Don't be intimidated by the assessment centers as they are great ways to be interviewed and show skills you cannot show in a formal interview. I would just say if you get the chance to be on a Unilever contract take the chance as they are sparse!
