  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I manage all aspects of IT projects (such as server installations, application rollouts etc). This includes stakeholder (customer) management, commercials (various contracts), finances and project resources. I am responsible for the delivery of projects within budget, time and within the bounds of the customers requirements.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes! During my apprenticeship & graduate programme I have learnt so much about how projects are managed, how to and why finances are so important, and how to motivate a team when times are tough! Motivation of team members is essential to get the work done to a high standard and to meet customers (high) expectations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme immensely. The support network I have around me makes dealing with new situations far easier and less stressful than if this network was not so readily available. My coaches often utilize their extensive industry experience to help with best practice management methods and solutions to complicated issues.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very structured, we are allocated 20% of our time (during working hours) to devote to the completion of our assignments, to do individual research/learning and to attend frequent workshops on new topics. The other 80% is used for our day jobs where we can put our newfound knowledge to the test.

  • My employer is very supportive and operates an open door policy with all management. We feel comfortable going to senior staff to discuss issue resolution methods and to test our knowledge. HR are also of massive assistance, they have supported me throughout my time working for Fujitsu and have ultimately made my working day easier with their support (with assistive technology).

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provides (Multiverse) is in frequent contact. They always ensure we have enough resources to help with our self lead learning. Their email is always open for questions and to arrange additional support sessions - both of which have been very useful when studying more difficult aspects of the project management.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am able to use the knowledge and skills I have learnt in my day-to-day work. Putting the theory into practice and then writing about how I used my learning in practice has helped solidify my understanding. One aspect in particular is negotiations, I was able to use my learning to help come to swift agreement with a challenging customer.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Before COVID we would often have networking events in our London office where all the graduates would get to meet and interact with more senior members of the business. Now that restrictions are in place we have games nights via teams. Professional networking still occurs via webinars etc during lunch breaks.
