  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day, I work between our on site maintenance team and work with operations too to make sure that planned works can go ahead and cause as little disruption as possible. I work mainly on my own and only report into my line manager. I work closely with health and safety and check external RAMS .

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find the layout of the apprenticeship difficult. I am enjoying the virtual classrooms but constantly reading through pages and pages of different theories, I am finding difficult. I find that each task is a lot and sometimes the tasks aren't very well explained which then takes me a long time to get my head around.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured and I have a very clear understanding of what task I need to complete and by when . I am also able to jump between tasks if I need to and go back to tasks which are due soon. I like that I am able to leave my trainer a message if I need to .

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have had a lot of support with other training programmes from my employer but the training session I have been put on has no reflection or link to my actual role. I have been given a lot of time to complete my tasks which is helpful but not actual support in terms of sitting down and talking about it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My trainer is really nice but I don't often speak to her. Her attitude towards helping and supporting me has always been great and if I've needed her to set me a task so I can hand in work she has always been very quick. There isn't much she can do to support me not enjoying the layout and learning style though.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't feel at all my training supports me in my day to day role. I have been put on a course designed to support me with coaching my team and becoming a better supervisor/manager but I DO NOT have a team that report into me. I find this very frustrating as I struggle with some of the tasks.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are a lot of virtual extra curricular activies that i am able to get involved in over teams currently. I think after covid and there are more activties, i will join in but I spend a lot of my day in front of a computer so try to limit this during covid.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Dixons Carphone to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I enjoy working at Dixons Carphone and my line manager has been great in supporting me in my role. I feel proud of what I have achieved most days. There is a lot of opportunity to learn and grow in DC and these have been made available to me which is great.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • Make sure you research your role - there is so much you can go into. It's important to have a voice and to understand that there are people you can speak to if you are ever struggling.
