Oncology Bioscience Apprentice Review

Delivering in vivo data by conducting in vivo studies as a personal license holder, typically in the mornings. After returning from the lab I work on numerous oncology projects in the office, such as performing data analysis, study archiving and experimental design.

I have learnt new hands on skills, being able to perform a variety of regulated procedures. I have become an openness in schools ambassador, developing my presentation and public speaking skills. My scientific understanding and ability to manage and design experiments has developed. I have developed my professional skills, including leadership.

I really enjoy my apprenticeship programme. I have a much larger role and responsibility within my department than what I thought I would have when joining. The culture within my department is very friendly, and I enjoy working with members of my team. My team also assist me in university studies when needed.

There is good organisation and structure within my apprenticeship programme. There is constant opportunities available to contribute to my development. Quarterly reviews are held to discuss and plan new ways of development and the next steps in my career.

I receive a significant amount of support from my employer, for both my role within the company and for my University studies. My manager and mentor always assist me and make time for me when I want to discuss something.

The support I receive from my training provider when working towards my qualifications varies. The lecturers themselves usually respond and provide useful feedback within a timely manner. However, I have had a few issues of being given access to modules late and not having the full allocated time to complete the assignments.

Certain modules within my qualification help me to have a better understanding of the work I do and why we do it. I also feel that the role I perform also contributes to the qualification as well.

Yes there is extra-curricular activities to get involved in. There are multiple social groups to join who organise social activities, as well as apprentice groups to form a community of apprentices. There is also company networking events that you can attend to meet others from the company based at different sites.
