I am a full-stack junior web developer. For my day to day tasks, I am involved in morning meetings, technical planning session, programming, testing and deployment & maintenance. Basically a full software development life cycle. I work in an agile team and using the latest programming technologies such as.NET Core
I have started as a level 3 apprentice, working full time and having a college one day per week. This has now progressed into a level 7 sponsored degree apprenticeship. I started with absolutely 0 knowledge, and now I am 20 years old with over 4 years of programming in a professional environment.
I really enjoy it. I like the fact that you're learning a new skill while getting paid as well as receiving a free university degree so that when you finish your course your total debt is... £0 and you have years of actual working experience and a consistent, competitive salary.
My particular course is overall well structured, there are some negatives I have and some things at university are not crystal clear but all in all, I am happy with my program. The company is fully supportive of me taking any time off to do university work, which doesn't put unnecessary pressure on me.
My employer is very supportive and all the people around me in my team. Even though I am no longer this newbie but a skilful developer now with good knowledge of the product. Whenever I need any study time, I can easily request it and my employer is very flexible with it.
Pretty standard to be honest. My course is more of a kind where you need to do your own research, and only do the exams given by the university. It is my responsibility to do all the learning, although they do provide all of the necessary learning resources which I can't complain about.
I'll be very honest, pretty much none. I feel like in terms of skill the university brings me very little technical knowledge, I want to be a developer, not a business person therefore I like the hands-on approach rather than all of the theory and academic way of learning things.
Yes. We have many companies organised events. They are often organised through Microsoft Teams and anyone is welcome to participate. Some of them include karaoke nights, or playing board games (If covid wasn't an obstacle). It makes the company feel more than just work, but somewhat a place where you go hang out with your friends.
Yes
I can't complain. They provide everything you need, in my experience, my team has been very helpful and always trying to help me to succeed at work in my academic tasks. This also includes the management people and at the very top, they treat you like everyone else with respect.
I feel like Pinewood is one of the companies which are open to give people a chance when they see you have potential. The people and their level of experience vary vastly, which is great because there's always someone you can learn of. The company is also very diversified, has a high percentage of females working, which is rare in this industry (development).
