I am involved in maintaining and improving the plant that i am assigned too. This involves fitting pipework, carrying out maintenance activities and routines as well as being part of the continuous improvement team and the HSE improvement team for the whole site. Involving the management and the site safety reps.
I have developed a lot of skills including different types of engineering skills such as dismantling equipment, maintaining using different tools such as spanners and i have also learned some of the process skills for the different things that can occur on site. As well as doing training courses for things such as slinging.
I enjoy working with the people on site and being a part of the teams that develop the site for its upkeep in the future. And ensuring that the plants are well maintained. I enjoy coming to work to see the people I work with as I get on with all of the them very well.
The program that I am on is very planned out and it has been from the start, with completing different site rotations to ensure that you have experience on each plant before you are assigned where you are going to continue your career at work within the company. And continue to develop.
I receive a lot of support from the people i work with on plant and from the plant managers as they are always there if i have any worries about a job, or if i need some guidance, as a lot of them have also been apprentices so they can speak from experience.
I have received a lot of support throughout my HNC from my tutor in particular, as he is very good at teaching ad always ensures i understand the tasks that are at hand before we move on to any assignment. This is very re-assuring as it means i am always capable of completing it.
I believe it is not connected too closely however it allows you to have more of an open mind and an appreciation of what other roles do and the math's and skill behind the decisions and the calculations that go on behind the scenes in order for everything to be safe.
There has been a team building trip to the lake district which was very good as well as visits for things within our sector. For example a visit to the cereals event in Cambridge to learn about how our products are used in conjunction with others and also to learn about companies in the same sector.

It is a good place to work and there are a lot of opportunities as an apprentice. As well as this there are a lot of holidays and the pay is okay. And you have a full employment contract from day one meaning you have good job security throughout your time.
Ensure you research what the job will entail and always make sure you study for your interview. As well as this just be yourself and ensure that the people who carry out your interview can understand who you are as a person and because that is what is the most important thing.
