  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I lead the HR team which includes Recruitment and Training departments. I am responsible for the experience/journey of all caregivers within the business. We currently have 70 caregivers, who I support daily and through Supervision and annual Appraisals. I work closely alongside the Head of Client Experience to ensure the service runs smoothly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot about business, business strategy, planning and understanding different types of leaders and managers. I've also beem able to have the time to review our organisational structure, our values and different types of leaders we have within the business. It has also helped me focus on and understand change within a business, in the most appropriate time, as we are going through chnage now.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I went into the course thinking it wouldn't be too different to the management level 3, how I was wrong. As the learner you take responsibility and management of the course, with guidance from your assessor, but you have to put the time in to do the research to be able to produce quality evidence. Although it wasn't what I thought, I loved the challenege.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • You choose your units and you can start on any of the units first and complete them in any order. Your assessor will give you guidance if you need. You will have an induction with your assessor and appointments around every weeks which helps to keep you on track and provide the organisation you need to make sure you don't fall behind.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was great at allowing me the time to take with my assessor and would support if I had any questions. I was also fortunate that my colleague was undertaking the same course, so we would also support each other through the course and give guidance where we were struggling.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My assessor Lynn was absolutely fantastic, I would high recommend her. Lynn is thorough and supportive, if you need guidance in between appointments Lynn is always there and will get back to you straight away. No question was a stupid one, Lynn is very encouraging and would always provide honest feedback.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has helped me to understand more about the business and gives me better knowledge and understanding. I feel like when I am faced with certain situations now, I will about the different things I have learnt and apply them to the situation. It has given me more confidence within my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We are part of a large network and have the opportunity to be part of networking groups across the UK focusing on our job roles. We are also able to book onto free training courses via our head office which will be with other offices across the UK and this is a great way to meet and build relationships with like minded people who you can continue to keep in touch with after the course.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Home care to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Home care is such a rewarding career, whether thats as a carer or back office function. What we do on a day to day basis makes a difference to so many people, not just our clients, but their families and of course of staff. Its not like a job when you're working with people.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Home care?
  • You've got to be caring and have a real drive to want to give to and help other people. You have to be passionate and want to make a difference, especially if you are working with older people. Being a home care caregiver means you will get to see different clients at different times and on different days which gives so many peoppe the flexibility they need.
