  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • moving chemicals and mixtures from A to B, this can be done manually by going out onto plant and opening or closing valves and it can also be done using the computer system in place. We follow a PI sheet which has all instructions necessary to carry out a task safely.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot of skills here at Syngenta. One side of this is understanding how the chemical manufacturing side of the world works. Another side is social skills as you are communicating with so many people from different roles ages and backgrounds which has all boosted my confidence.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my program a lot, yes there are times when it can be tough especially after busy days and also trying to juggle other parts of the apprenticeship too regarding college work and NVQ work but there is always help and support throughout the whole program which is great.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We had a really good 3 week induction when starting the job and I learned all about the companies history which was extremely interesting. The programme is structured well as we balance working on site, college and completing NVQ work well. Our manager always helps us to get tasks done in the correct timeframe.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I think we receive more than enough support from our employer, and if our main manager was away at any period of time, then there are always any other people to step in and help me with absolutely anything. The staff at Syngenta are always accommodating and helpful with all situations.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We get full support from our training provider as they are only one call or email away. If I am struggling with any topics at college I know that my tutor will give me more support and help sheets with relevant topics to meet my needs which I find so helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • We learn an overview of chemical manufacturing which can apply to the whole of the UK. yes, some things may not be relevant to my workplace but students from other companies may relate to them. A lot of it is to do with health and safety which applies to all of us.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to covid 19 we haven't managed to do many extra curricular activities however I have put forward some ideas to my apprentice union rep that we should maybe do something such as a yearly football game just for a bit of fun as I believe my company used to do this in the past

  • 9a. Would you recommend Syngenta to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel like Syngenta is a great career choice if you have interest with science and chemicals plus there is business side to the job for other roles. another bonus is you don't need a university degree for some jobs. If you do need a degree, Syngenta support you all the way and you 'earn while you learn'.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Syngenta?
  • The best way to get a job and to do well here is just be yourself. Don't hesitate with a place like Syngenta. There are unlimited opportunities and you can get great experience at this company. There are also so many hidden company benefits along the way so go for it
