  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an apprentice my days mainly consist of learning and training. This ranges from health and safety and policies to the equipment I will be working on. This training is either completed online due to COVID or at the training centre.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • While working for National Grid I have developed my social skills and my ability to work in teams. This is due to the amount of new people I meet and how comfortable everyone in the company has made me feel. Being new this is very important.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the program at National Grid. There would have been a good balance between on job and off job learning if COVID didn't cause an issue. National Grid will help me complete this program and are good with any issues or concerns I have.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe my program is well organised and structured. The years timetable has been set to us to I can see exactly what I will be doing each week and plan my work. This is subject to change due to COVID but we are let know if this happens.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer. Any problems or concerns I have are easy to resolve by ending a simple email or text. As well as this there are lost of people I can ask for help and they will all try to provide as much help as possible.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training providers support us with any problems we have while learning. The trainers ensure we are all comfortable while learning allowing us to confidently ask questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe the training is very important in ensuring we perform better in our role when qualified. During the training we learn everything we will need for working on site and also get on site experience during our 3 years.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • National Grid have a social media type page called 'yammer'. This is used for sharing your/your colleagues achievements during your time at the company.

  • 9a. Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • National Grid is a brilliant company that has welcomed and made me feel comfortable in the first couple of months joining. They also are very organised in my apprenticeship and are able to provide any help that I need along the way.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
  • Be confident. At National Grid there is a lot of time spent working in a team. It is a big help if you're able to talk to new people and confident when working as a team.
