  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy every moment or pace of the program. We also undergoes online learning through our apprenticeship learning provider Realise. We started our journey here through classroom lesson on how to pass the theory test, hazard perception test and case study test in order to get the category D Passenger Carrying Vehicle licence. With the actual job as driver behind the wheel at the moment I am enjoying it. Personally I love driving so I reckon I will stay for some time and work my way up.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In my opinion, it is well organized as the protocols in the company is being highly observed. The training provider also got a well structured program. We have to do English and Math level 2 as well. Also, we do mentoring behind the wheel and route learning prior to drive the bus on our own on the road.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In my opinion, I received a good support from my employer. I have been taught all the necessary information and safety protocols prior to driving the passenger transport bus on my own. They have made sure that I will be good and safety enough to do my job prior to start. Pension scheme is also been set. The only issue is the delay of some important things, e.g., TFL ticket pass which till now I don't have it and some mentors in service are a bit unprofessional when it comes to how they talk with apprentice. They should be a bit considerate and respectful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In my opinion, our training provider Realise are brilliant. The training development officers that we have are all great and supportive with our needs. Because they were bus drivers before, they know exactly what they are doing. In a way they are pleasant and gave us all the support needed prior to us being dispatched on our own bus training school and then our designated bus depot. The only downside was till now we have not done our functional skills math and english. Only diagnostics so far and we are already doing our main job which is driving tghe bus.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In my opinion, it is very vital to learn our level 2 English and Math in order to become an effective bus driver. As I myself originally come from the Philippines and English is not my first language it is vital that I have to get the level 2 standard. Well, I reckon my english is not that bad but still I wish they could get it done soon. Also, Math will be a good skill to develop.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Because I just started working with my bus depot , I am not aware that we have that kind of extra curricular activities . I don't think so that we have that otherwise I have been already informed about it. That is a very good idea if we'll have that sort of activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Abellio to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • In my opinion, Abellio Bus Company is not a bad company to start with in the passenger transport bus driver industry. They have a pension scheme in which they pay 3 percent of the contributions. They have a safety environment at place of work ,most of their buses looks not that old and are all compliance to safety. The management side looks ok to me for now as I've just started. Hopefully it lasts.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Abellio?
  • Well, they call always try to apply and find out themselves how it is. As I said, it is not a bad company to start with. They don't pay the best salary in the industry but with my experience it is not bad at all. The important aspects for me is to have a safe working environment and good quality of machine or buses to drive because I just want to make sure that I won't be a risk to the public and I am concern with my safety of myself as well at work. Finally, yes I would recommend it for all aspiring bus driver and one important tip is please drive safely after you've get the licence, and driving inservice on your own.
