  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my Job Role, i work both airside and landside. My day to day role includes hosting, checking customers in, boarding flights, meeting arrivals and even being on the customer service desk. My job has lots of variety and there are never two days which are the same! My role is very customer based!

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills and improved on all my existing ones and this just continues every day! For example, my skill in both written and spoken communication has improved greatly as in my role, i have to speak to lots of different people and the way in which i convey information has to be varied from person to person. A new skill i have learnt is how to deal with customers in a calm and helpful manner, especially when things get a bit hectic!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed my program as every day is different and i have learnt so much about myself, aviation and dealing with customers in a short space of time. While it can be quite hard work and difficult some days, there is never a dull day and you will learn so much which will be very beneficial for the rest of your life!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our program was well structured, before we had started we knew exactly what we would be learning about and on what days we would be doing it, however we did hit a rough patch due to covid and so this did set us back a bit and made it more difficult to get our learning in!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Working in the airport can be pretty tough especially when you are new! As well l as our apprenticeship being during covid it made our job even harder as there were many restrictions and it was changing by the hour, but the amount of support we get from our colleagues and employer was amazing, which made my job alot easier as I knew I had people to rely on when times got tough!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The amount of support I received during my time doing this apprenticeship was amazing! If we ever didn’t understand or needed extra support it was always available, no matter when we needed it. I found it very easy to reach out if I ever needed any help and found that I was always supported no matter what!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • During our training we learnt a lot about health and safety as well as things such as time scales and how to deal in certain situations. This was very beneficial to my role as i was able to incorporate everything i had learnt into my job, especially regarding how to go about certain situations which may be quite difficult.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We did have situations that would have gone ahead if not due to covid such as different events for our charity, flying start, however due to covid, this didn’t go ahead. One event that went ahead was a charity event that we completed earlier in our apprenticeship which was documented where our colleagues and ourselves pulled a plane with our bare hands!
