  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My everyday role consists of providing administrative support or assistance to the Legal and CoSec team in a variety of ways, such as through organising yearly meetings, helping to collate Board packs, writing minutes, sending out deadlines and other administrative tasks. I am also responsible for liaising with internal stakeholders on a regular basis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely learned a number of new skills including interpersonal skills, since I came straight from sixth form I did not have experience in dealing with a large variety of people, therefore when I joined my Company and was able to speak and interact with different people than I was used to, it dramatically improved my communication and interpersonal skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my programme to a large extent. Previously I had been with another tutor, but they, sadly, went into administration and LSP took me under their wing at the last minute just before undergoing EPA to take me through the final stages of my apprenticeship and support me in the process.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured and organised and isn't too much in the sense that you are able to get on with your everyday role and still be able to dedicate the necessary time to the role as needed. This is important as you don't want to neglect the work you are there to do.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a sufficient amount of support from my employer, I did not want to be bombarded and feel like I was being pushed through the process, I felt there was enough self-sufficiency that I felt I was completing the course alone, but enough support to know I had the assistance if needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received an amazing amount of support from LSP, especially in comparison to my previous training provider. I was used to catch-ups every two months, but with LSP I was meeting with them weekly to go through everything and they ensured that I felt confident and supported right through my exams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • What I have learned throughout my time as an apprentice (through my accumulated skills, knowledge and behaviours) has truly benefited me in my everyday role. I have learned to communicate better and feel more confident in the work I produce. Furthermore, I feel like I am able to value myself and my skills so much more.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Charles Stanley & Co Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great company to work for, simply because you feel supported and there are a great group of individuals that you are working around, who make you feel welcome. Furthermore, the opportunities to progress are endless and I have been offered a number of different routes to go down, which demonstrates how they value your skills.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Charles Stanley & Co Ltd?
  • I would encourage those applying to CS to take into consideration that you will not step immediately into the role that you see yourself in in 5 years time. Essentially, it is all about building experience and knowledge so remember that getting your foot in the door of a company like CS is often the most important thing, the opportunities to progress will follow.
