  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I currently work alongside the engineers within the business in a number of different sectors in engineering gaining hands on experience carrying out maintenance tasks on the aircraft. The role of my apprenticeship allows apprentices to gain the necessary qualifications and experience needed to become a fully qualified aircraft engineer.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my apprenticeship I have learnt a wide range of different hand skills as well as written skills, English skills and mathematical skills. The mix between hands on and classroom based learning has really helped to boost my skills and I have learnt a great deal of different skills which will aid me through my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme that I am currently on. The work is exciting and enjoyable and helps me to keep engaged at all times. The programme is challenging as it has pushed me to study hard during exam times and has pushed me to new levels when carrying out hands on tasks but this has allowed me to grow as a person and gain vital experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the programme is well structured and organised. The programme has a good balance between classroom based learning and hands on learning. By doing this it helps people to keep engaged in the work and makes the programme a lot more enjoyable. The first year is mainly classroom based learning but it is well structured and organised throughout the year.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support we receive is great. The support is always there if needed and if they know someone is struggling they are happy to give the correct support needed to help the person. If you have any issues it’s easy to gain the support by contacting our manager or other colleagues who will give us the support needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards the qualifications, the training providers are happy and willing to give support needed to help you to achieve the end goal and help you to achieve the qualifications. Extra support is available if needed by approaching the correct member of staff to speak to them about current issues or things that you are specifically struggling with.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe the qualification we gain from this apprenticeship really helps us in our future careers as engineers and shows we have gained the relevant knowledge and experience that is needed for engineers. By achieving this qualification, it helps us to gain the knowledge that we need for when we have completed our apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a number of activities that we can get involved in however these have been limited over the past year due to the current pandemic. If it wasn’t for the pandemic and the current measures in place, I do believe there would be much more social activities to get involved in.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • British Airways is a great company to work for as they are a great community and ensure everyone feels welcomed and is looked after in the workplace. The company ensures all colleagues have the support needed at all times if necessary. Working at British Airways feels like being part of a big family who work together and ensure everyone is looked after.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
  • When applying for British airways ensure you be yourself and don’t try to be someone that you aren’t. When applying you should show to the company all the skills that you have and can bring to the job role that you are applying for and show them why you are the right person for the job.
