  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Project Quality Engineer working full time at a Major Infrastructure Construction Project in the North West of England. My role involves Inspecting, Testing and Proving that the services we deliver are fit for purpose and that adequate records are correctly produced and securely stored that will document those works to a contractually agreed level of assurance. Day to Day I start work at 06:30am and conduct a series of walk around site checks, having satisfied myself that all is in good order I will record any necessary findings and commence planning any testing I am scheduled to undertake, insuring that all works are planned in line with relevant safety practices. I then attend the relevant items to be tested, work to any relevant procedure and insure that no defects are present. Having finished testing and made site notes I then return to my desk and complete any necessary reports then send them to relevant personnel. I attend meetings as a key stake holder to insure that items manufactured for our project are being built to the agreed standards and insure that our suppliers know what is expected of them. Some times I produce briefs and reports documenting experience we as a project have gained which may be relevant in future to steer us in the right direction in terms of error prevention. If there are any serious concerns raised by our client as regards misconduct or the quality of works delivered then I will investigate such matters leaving no stone unturned and fully documenting all findings as per contractual protocol. I count myself thoroughly lucky to have been afforded the opportunities received during my time at Balfour Beatty CSUK in terms of the HNC, HND and NVQ4 in Engineering I have been funded for and the people I have been fortunate enough to work with and gain experience from.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because my own experience has been brilliant, I see plenty of other people being given the same level of support in there development and whats more the people Balfours employ are first rate. The attitudes you encounter with them are all fair and decent.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
  • Be honest, Do not feel like you have to miss-represent yourself. Balfour Beatty is a company where fair practice is the norm. I came to the firm as a Junior Administrator with no GCSE's and one Level 3 in IT. They made an Engineer out of me.
