  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is currently as an apprentice quantity surveyor working along side senior QS's to help them with the costing, invoicing, budgeting and other commercial aspects of construction projects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have massively developed my computer skills navigating microsoft office and other job specific computer software. My presentation skills and confidence when public speaking have been helped massively by my apprenticeship. In addition to this my teamwork skills have developed as I am constantly collaborating with other members of my project teams, the company as a whole and clients teams.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme I am on. I have a massive interest in construction and the varied projects I am on help me see a wide range of processes.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well organised, the in house assessment/training plan is laid out to follow the progression in difficulty of tasks and depth of knowledge I am gaining. It also lines up with the assessments I am required to complete as university and those set out by the RICS

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have regular monthly meetings scheduled with my manager to check in on my progress and any areas that I need help with. I also have a personal mentor who is the senior QS I mainly work with. They are available to help with any queries and run through any tasks. In addition to this all the other members of the company are happy to help with any queries or specialist knowledge I need.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My university training helps with any information/CPD events that may help with my knowledge. They also provide a frame work and a mentor to help me achieve accreditation from the RICS upon the completion of my degree

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification through my training provider helps give me the base knowledge and surrounding detail required to complete my job as a QS in multiple areas of construction, not only the field which my employer specializes in.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, the company holds in house social events to help people socialize with colleague outside of the office and meet members of other departments that they may not have seen in the office. There are also company sporting events which are used to raise money for charity.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel they are a great employer who are always eager to help their employees gain extra qualifications and progress in their chosen field. It is also a great work environment to be a part of.

  • Research the role you are looking to get into and the company before your interview, and show that you are interested and eager to learn.
