Undergraduate engineer Review

On a normal workday I would usually sit in on team meetings and find out what the team has been getting up to. I usually share what I am doing as well. At the start of each rotation we are given a project that will help the team hopefully. So depending on which rotation it is, I might spend my day on CAD, testing in a lab or doing electronics and going to more meetings.

I have learnt lots of skills like how to set up a test, using CAD software, how to present ideas, circuitry (like soldering surface mount), building rigs for prototypes.

I have really enjoyed it so far.

The programme is fairly organised. We get timetables at the start of the year and each term so know what is coming up and we get 3 rotations in year 1 and year 2 and can decided how we want to split the time up in years 3 and 4.

We get weekly meeting with our line managers and within the institute there are frequent student support adviser catch ups to talk about our well being.

We have days to go over the apprenticeship log books etc. and training days within work.

It encourages me to reach out for feedback.

There are lots of sports clubs and other clubs and the institute holds different events throughout the month.

I feel like I have learnt a lot and gained a good amount of experience. I also enjoy the extra curricular activities.
