1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I am the Credit Control Manager, I am responsible for the collection of overdue invoices to 10 companies within the Acorn Group. These are UK based companies and companies based worldwide I have 4 team members who report directly to me, I oversee their work, handle queries they raise and also manage their personal development.
On a daily basis I liaise with all department managers with the processing of new orders and dealing with any queries and issues.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have found this apprenticeship extremely worthwhile and I have learnt numerous new skills especially during the managing people and leading people modules. It has been good to learn more about the motivation of team members and how to interpret their reactions and to deal with conflicts. The course also covered topics such as Operational Management and Projects which I would not necessarily be involved in, understanding how decisions are made with these modules has given me a greater understanding and appreciation for the decisions being made.
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
This is a new course for the organsation I work for, I have asked to attend courses previously so this is something I have wanted to do for awhile. It is a fantastic course to do and the tutor is great. He knows his stuff and finds ways to show the entire class dependant of their level of understanding or knowledge. He makes it informative and presents in a relaxed way that allows you to express your feelings and knowledge without worry
4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
The programme is very well organised by Interserve. The problems have been caused by our office not having the required IT equipment available. With the Covid 19 issues Interserve have gone above and beyond to ensure the course continued to run and the tutor has provided more support that needed and taken extra time in presenting topics and providing feedback. He is always there if I have any questions and provides fantastic support to me
5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
My employer has provided all the necessary support I need. With Covid 19 the classes have been run online so I have been able to take extra time out of my working hours to complete these and to also complete the relevant assignments and case studies.
6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
The training provider has been brilliant, they have provided more support that usual due to Covid 19 with online classes being completed instead so they have had to run the sessions on multiple occasions and have scheduled these around our workloads.
The learning tips and question sets provided really help you see exactly what is required to obtain the best from each topic and the knowledge on models to support the learning is first class.
7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
The qualification has certainly helped with the management of my team and my understanding on what is important to them. The use of Emotional Intelligence when dealing with conflicts has definitely helped.
The general info provided on Managing & Leading people has also help my with how my actions can be perceived and the importance of setting a good example and following best practises.
8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
My employer is heavily involved in supporting a local charity so events are held to help with raising money for them.
On occasions in the past we have had sports matches against our company auditors then drinks afterwards.
I have also attended corporate events for the company with our bank and auditors
