  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a sheet metal worker and fabricator which involves creating parts from metal sheets which are then used in major components. On a day to day basis I would say that I spent a large amount of time reading documents which disclose the specifications of each product , from this i would then mark out each piece of metal using as little of the material as possible to ensure that nothing is wasted and everything is used in a way that ensures that money is not wasted. I would then use a multitude of manufacturing techniques to ensure that I make the product correctly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned how to manipulate the metal to ensure that I can make the product correctly and in a safe concise matter. I know how to correctly use abrasive disc tools as to get the correct shape and end result out of the product. I also learned three welding techniques which are TIG, MIG and Stick. These being value skills that will allow me to correctly and securely join two metal pieces together. I also know how to use heavy machinery to gain the correct metal shape.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Without being educated on what I am meant to be doing I wouldn't know how to correctly conduct an activity. I enjoy knowing the information behind an activity ir process so that I know whether or not I should be using the process on the product or not. If I didn't have the knowledge I could possibly conduct the job incorrectly and as a result I could lose the company money which I need to try and avoid to the best of my ability.
