  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role involves a combination of maintenance and reactive breakdowns. Throughout the tasks we are required to use a variety of skills; mechanical, electrical and instrumentation. Throughout the day you will interact with different job roles from the same work areas. There is an opportunity to be involved with projects with the team that you are working with on placement.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In the apprenticeship you complete a BTEC level 3, HNC and achieve an NVQ. This gives a good base for learning new skills and then developing existing ones, both practical and theoretical. You also develop professional skills; how to write reports, presentation skills and good GMP practice. Working in different maintenance teams means that you learn different skills from different people within the teams.

  • I really enjoy the apprenticeship programme, you get to be part of various maintenance teams around the Macclesfield site each one of them having different work environments and different ways of working. Also the work that you get to be involved with throughout the apprenticeship is good because of the variation of tasks that you can be a part of.

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend AstraZeneca because it is a good work environment, with the leading developments in technology and science. For anyone interested in engineering there is good variation in the work that goes on around the site, ranging from routine maintenance to attending breakdowns. AstraZeneca also produces medicines that saves lives.
