  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role is to maintain all the infrastructure assigned to my team and ensure it meets all the required standards. I regularly work on projects with other teams to develop new products, upgrade existing ones and decommission old ones that are no longer required by the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through this apprenticeship I have developed a range of skills, one of them being teamwork, which is a key aspect of my job role. Another of these is working to a time scale, as a lot of my projects have time scales associated with them, which need to be met to satisfy others.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy this programme, I have been able to learn a lot of new computing skills throughout my time so far in the workplace. These skills have been further developed at the time with my training provider, who has provided lots of useful resources for me to use to boost my skills.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well organised, there is always something new to learn and extra activities to take part in to boost your skillset. They set us a range of objectives to work towards to ensure we progress at the rate we should, these objectives also help to boost your skillset vastly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a lot of support and guidance from the careers coaches and managers at my workplace. They help us in a variety of ways, from actually aiding us with assignments to setting up meetings to help with concerns or problems. They are really easy to approach and talk to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is lots of support and sessions to help us when doing our assignments, lab work and coursework. There is also the opportunity to speak to tutors out of hours to get one to one support on issues when completing coursework and other such work, this support is very useful for me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As my qualification is tailored to my job role, I find it very useful. The content we cover is directly applicable to my job in the workplace, meaning the programmes workplace and training aspects complement each other perfectly. I feel that without my time with my training provider, I wouldnt have progressed so quickly in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of clubs and events to take part in every week. Clubs such as football and rugby run weekly on campus and there are other events such as firework displays and christmas parties you can attend. Events such as teaching robots to primary school children also take place, to share knowledge with the younger generation.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The programme is very well structured and managed by the team. It allows you to develop quickly and progress in the workplace, whilst also working towards a degree level qualification, which is very useful. As the programmes training is tailored to my role it is very useful and aids my progress in my role.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • If you are thinking of applying to a Barclays apprenticeship and are not sure about whether or not it is right for you, read through the different documents and watch all the videos about it and you will see that it is a great place to work where you are well supported and pushed to do the best work and progress with your career.
